Loosely based on the short story by Henry James, The Beast in the Jungle tells the vertiginous story of a man and woman who, for twenty-five years, frequent a huge nightclub in anticipation of a mysterious event. A mesmerizing“Diskospiel” a love story and the tale of an obsession with an “event” that, when it finally comes to pass, takes on a more tragic form than might have been expected.
A captivating exploration of the social history of the last four decades through the lens of a subculture, it is a poignant narrative that weaves through eras, from the disco years to the rise of acid house and the emergence of techno. A fictional narrative that abstractly intertwines these cultural shifts with historical milestones, such as the AIDS pandemic, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the collapse of the World Trade Center.

Patric Chiha is an Austrian filmmaker of Hungarian and Lebanese origin, born in Vienna in 1975. He moved to Paris at the age of 18 to study fashion design. He then studied film editing at INSAS Film School in Brussels. His short films and documentaries (Home and Les messieurs) have been selected in a variety of film festivals. In 2009 he directed his first feature film, Domaine, starring Béatrice Dalle, which premiered at the Mostra di Venezia. Followed by Boys Like Us (2014), and the documentaries Brothers of the Night (2016) and If It Were Love (2019), which both premiered at the Berlinale. The Beast in the Jungle (2023) is his fifth feature film.
