MOVIE CATEGORY
The film portraits a 48-year-old woman, named Etero, who lives in the anonymous and traditionalist province of Georgia and who has always wanted to be alone. Left free after the death of oppressive father and brother, Etero can express her will and desires, and the meeting with Murman may be the right chance. Despite other people’s glances, gossip and chit-chat.
Eka Chavleishvili’s performance runs through Georgian director Elene Naveriani’s latest film as an empowering, and yet silent, political act of claim. Her body is a desiring subject crushed into frozen landscapes and dusty corners of shops; her relationship with Murman, the supplier’s delivery boy for Etero’s shop, is the spark of light in a small society made of incomprehension and antipathies, in which any possibility of sisterhood and identification seems far away.
