MOVIE CATEGORY
The irrepressible Dasha escapes from the small Russian town where she lives with her father and, with the complicity of a friend, goes in search of her mother, who abandoned her at an early age, in the human wilderness of St. Petersburg. By meeting the respectful Fedya, exploring the city’s nightlife and feeling anxiety about her own immature sexuality, Dasha will live through turbulent days.
Director Irina Basenko’s gaze starts from Dash but broadens more and more to absorb in the portrait of a teenager pervaded by doubts the portrait of a mother who faces the demons of her adulthood. And this is how, by putting her mother’s problems with alcohol and remorse into perspective, perhaps Dasha can change and mature, in a world where violence and male arrogance germinate without leaving any apparent way out, and growing means understanding how imperfect and disappointing others are.
