By applying the technique of animated collage which is characteristic of his video-art works, Gianluca Abbate has shot a seven- minute-long panoramic overview to describe the
over-populated world where we live in. It is the first chapter of a trilogy dedicated to contemporary society and the relationship between humans and cities. It shows that there is no more space for a single person, but there is only an overflowing river of individuals without proportion or living space available.

Jin, an illegal immigrant in Paris,
makes his living by driving a night taxi without legal permit. He is a passionate DJ of electronic music and during one of his shifts he meets Naomi, a stripper. While planning together their escape, they start an affair with some danger.
In his debut film, Ferrucci uses a dark approach to present a face of the French capital different from the one shown in postcards by transporting the viewers to a dilapidated environment illuminated by neon lights.
Non-professional actors move in the circles of the local mafia, which has started a modern slavery based on the exploitation of illegal immigrants.

The party organized to celebrate her seventieth birthday gives Aurore, a widow, the opportunity to gather the whole family: the first son Jean-Pierre, the writer primigravida Juliette, who is working on the book which gives the name to the film and collection of stories it is based on, the rebellious photographer Margaux, and Mathieux. Their lives are all at a turning point due to the choices one of them has made.
Je voudrais que quelqu’un m’attende quelque is a group film following the crucial stages of the life of the four protagonists, which are the same as in everybody’s lives.
Loyal to Gavalda’s book, the story Viard
tells through images is crossed by a recurring dualism: birth/death, first/last, and beginning/end.

For years, the black Christ of Siculiana,
a town near Agrigento in Sicily, has been carried in a procession by local aristocrats chosen on
a hereditary base. This time it is the nineteen-year-old Edward from Ghana who

at challenging the very idea of border.

A dream-like atmosphere distinguishes
the second chapter of the trilogy
by Gianluca Abbate about contemporary society and the relationship between individuals and landscape. The welcoming and soft voice of a woman
invites viewers to fully relax and surrender to the background noise: the chaos of the industrialised world populated
with passers- by, tourists and busy shops. In such a chaotic landscape, where living space seems to be reduced, a sudden change is produced by immersing
the viewers in an underwater landscape. A polluted sea which suddenly becomes populated with colourful micro- organisms, where a voice-over invites us to sleep.

Set in Sardinia, the drama directed by Piredda unveils a polluted and patriarchal land.
The lamb of the title, who is orphan of the mother and does not have many chances of surviving long, is probably
the transposition of the main character, who, on the contrary, is going to fight with all her strength so that life can triumph over death.

Franco Rampazzo is a businessman in the building sector who decides, together with his loyal surveyor Gianni Colombo, to invest in the business of old age. In particular, they want to turn huge, abandoned hotels into
luxury nursing homes for rich pensioners coming
from all over the world. It is a true
‘paradise without god’ and death, a business unexpectedly attracting richer and more powerful men who had no qualms about trampling on small entrepreneurs and their projects.
It is a harsh and painful story taking inspiration from the novel with the same title
by Romolo Bugaro and it deals with the progressive aging of the population in Western countries and the collapse in the building sector, which is going to kickstart the ensuing and inevitable precipitation of the event, exactly like in a game of dominos.

Shadi lives in the same village
village where she lost
both her parents. They were accused of having killed Hasti, their daughter’s play-mate, so they were killed to revenge her death. The little Shadi was then adopted by her uncle but she had to face the marginalization the inhabitants of the village forced her to experience starting from school. Metamorphosis in Slaughterhouse describes the
cruelty of taking justice into one’s own hands and the social and psychological consequences it has on the individual. He does that through the clear, green eyes of someone, though innocent, who pays the highest price.

DIRECTOR

Javad Daraei, Iranian director, chooses the path of
making cinema immediately after graduating from high school. After the short films I don’t like her (2016) and Limit (2017), Metamorphosis in Slaughterhouse (2019) was his debut feature film. By taking care of every aspect of his films, from the script to post-production, Daraei claims a cinematic philosophy (and practice): it is possible to make high-quality works also with a low budget.
